Nickolas Roblee-Strauss
is a painter born in rural western Massachusetts, raised at the mouth of a logging trail. His work contends with the perceptual haze of contemporary queer identity formation within an old media framework. Bringing together an intuitive approach to oil painting with studies in anthropology and psychoanalytical theory, his work inhabits an uncanny world between caricature and gesture. He recently closed a three year chapter working in New York to pursue residencies in Portugal at both PADA & RAMA studios.
